The birthplace of house music is hosting the Chicago House Music Festival next month.

It takes place in Millennium Park, coinciding with Memorial Day weekend on May 26.

Chicago’s Department of Cultural Affairs and Special Events is helming the event, which will be free entry and feature three stages, including the Jay Pritzker Pavilion.

A number of house music greats are due to play, including Louie Vega’s band Elements of Life making their debut in Chi-Town.

Further acts set to appear include Chez Damier, Joe Smooth, Ron Trent (pictured), Celeste Alexander, Paul Johnson, DJ Deeon, Mike Dunn, DJ Sabine, Donna Edwards, Craig Loftis and more.

Alongside the festival, there will also be a Chicago House Music Conference across May 24 and 25 at the Chicago Cultural Center.

A House Dance workshop will also take place on May 25 led by local and national professional House Dancers, so you can scrub up on your moves before hitting the party the next day.

On the day of the festival in Millenium Park a Vinyl Records Fair will be open for business.

Mark Kelly, Commissioner of the Department of Cultural Affairs and Special Events, said: “This Memorial Day weekend, the Chicago House Music Festival in Millennium Park celebrates a truly original genre created in the city during the 1980s by DJ Frankie Knuckles and others.

“House music is part of the city’s rich music legacy with influences from disco, blues, gospel music, soul, R&B, funk and jazz. Whether you’re a house music fan or just love to dance, I hope to see everyone coming together and enjoying this great art form.”
